He has always been fascinated by the artistry of spaces, and has tried to know the stories behind them. Due to this reason, he has read a lot about the history of architecture and the mark architects tend to leave on the society.

Joe Cianciotto discusses how architecture acts as a reflection of the fabric of the society

Right from the grand monumental structures to the simple buildings and residences that make up a city, all of these establishments tell a story of their own. By observing the architecture of diverse places, people can form an idea about the people who inhabited them. Joe Cianciotto says that architecture tends to influence communities in multiple in direct ways. Mr. Cianciotto is an architect who is primarily based in the Bay Area. His major inspirations include notable names like Leoh Ming Pei and Norman Foster. He especially is a fan of the works of the late Frank Lloyd Wright.  While Joe Cianciotto has an interest in a number of architecture styles, his favorite ones are neo-futurism, postmodernism, and modernism.

Coming to the topic of architecture and its influence on the society, Mr. Cianciotto says that diverse types of establishments that are built in the society are basically cultural and social products in their essence. Buildings are ideally a result of the social needs of people, and are meant to accommodate diverse types of settings, including cultural, religious, economic, political, and social. The location, size, and appearance of buildings are moreover not just physical factors, but they are an output of the ideas of the society, and a reflection of the economic and social organizations that it houses.

As changes take place in the society, its build environment starts to evolve as well.  With the passage of time, new building starts to emerge and the old ones gradually become obsolete. A few of the old buildings are modified as well, and some tend to take on different functions. Buildings are produced by the society, while these establishments help in maintaining its important social forms. Hence, as people try to understand the buildings and environments, they would invariably acquire a good understanding of the culture and society where they exist.

Joe Cianciotto mentions that due to the influence of architecture on the society, all architects generally take time to understand the clients, the community, and the overall project environment, even before getting started with the design process.  He underlines that understanding the communities and environments aids in designing with intent, and generating design patterns that would contribute to emphasize on inter-disciplinary collaborations prevalent in the region.
